Hearing Aids

SUMMER TIME HEAT IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER

After all this rain and flooding that we recently had, it’s hard to imagine that Central Texas is about to heat up again, and with heat comes sweat. While most hearing aids can handle daily sweat, it’s important to keep them as dry as possible to avoid damage, downtime, and repairs.

Here are some helpful tips to keep both you and your hearing aids going this summer.
1. Wipe down your hearing aids after use. Use a clean, dry cloth to remove and prevent excess moisture from getting into the hearing aids after outdoor activities.

2. Wear a sweatband. Regular use of a sweatband during activities can keep you hearing aids dry. Wear your hearing aids on the outside of your sweatband to add a layer of protection.

3. Use a hearing aid cover. Hearing aid covers come in a variety of materials, colors, and even patterns. While hearing aid covers will not make your hearing aids waterproof, they will add another layer of protection to guard against sweat, dirt, and moisture.

4. Use a dehumidifier. Instead of storing your hearing aid inside a case at night, use a dehumidifier. A dehumidifier can help to remove the moisture that builds up inside of your hearing aid during the day. While electric and dessicant-based products work really well, a more economical option may be enough to do the job. You may have everything you need to make one at home: a plastic re-sealable bag and large grain rice. Turn you hearing aids off as usual and place them in the middle of the bag for overnight wicking.

Stay cool this summer and we look forward to seeing you soon!
